Self portraiture has been an important part of my work all along. This image was inspired in part by Kiki Smith’s 1991 Banshee Pearls lithograph, also with aluminum leaf. The Woman With Camera looks back at the viewer, reclaiming the gaze and her place on a living planet as a complex symbiotic being.
Wall of Fern | We Will Absorb Your Nutrients
“Wall of Fern (we will absorb your nutrients)” is an indexical response to place and a collaboration with the land, the forest, and the swamp I live near. What we are learning is that forests are complex, symbiotic, and possibly sentient; the ferns are not separate from the trees.
