Self portraiture has been an important part of my work all along. This image was inspired in part by Kiki Smith’s 1991 Banshee Pearls lithograph, also with aluminum leaf. The Woman With Camera looks back at the viewer, reclaiming the gaze and her place on a living planet as a complex symbiotic being living amidst other complex symbiotic beings.
